Master Bathroom Renovation

We’ve just begun the process of renovating our master bathroom over at my house. There are SO many things to consider when remodeling a bathroom. I thought I’d share some of the advice I’ve been given, and some of the choices I’ve made so far.

The bathroom has been taken down to the studs. The rotting, mildew covered studs… It’s not a big bathroom, but we are able to steal a little bit of space from a small closet in the next room to make shower a little bigger.

With that, I had to make a decision on new shower fixtures. Having remodeled one bathroom previously with the help of a designer, I found that what a designer chooses and what a plumber recommends are often two different things… This time, I decided to go with the brand Moen.

Moen is a well known, reliable brand. The fixtures are good quality, and parts can be easily replaced or repaired should anything happen. Surprisingly, an internet search doesn’t really do this brand very many favors. While other brands come “all in one” and easy to find on sites like Home Depot, Moen appears to be geared more toward professionals (not a bad thing.) I’d highly recommend visiting a show room like BeeBe Bath and Kitchen Showroom in Mercerville or Baths Etc. in Princeton Junction. Both are associated with supply houses (where we get all the stuff you don’t see behind the wall.) Both also have very knowledgeable staff that will talk you through the myriad of choices that you have (while you’re there, pick up a catalogue for even MORE choices.)

While the option for a “plumber approved brand,” sourced from a showroom may be pricer that going to Home Depot or Lowes, it’s worth the stop, just for the education alone. There is a lot to learn, and when it comes to a bathroom renovation ($$$) you don’t want to look back and regret your choices.

After much hemming-and hawing, I finally decided on the Moen Rizon family of products. So far I’m happy with my choice and confident that everything will come together exactly the way I’ve been picturing
