While we're on the subject of bathrooms...

I just got a new boiler (to be featured in next week’s article) and a boiler mate (AKA indirect water heater.) What’s a boiler mate you ask? Well, essentially it’s a storage tank of endless hot water. For a family like mine- two active adults, and two mess-making children, a boiler mate is a game changer. The boiler mate prioritizes making hot water over making heat when necessary. Not to say that you’ll be cold while you’re water heats up- more than likely you won’t even notice a difference. This all happens because the boiler mate is its own “zone,” much like the upstairs or downstairs of your house.

Our evenings tend to be busy. The kids bathe back to back. That’s a fully bubbly bath followed by a shower. Usually while all that is happening I’m throwing in a load of laundry, running the dishwasher, and using the hot water in the kitchen sink to rinse off the dishes and clean anything that doesn’t fit in the dishwasher. Before the boiler mate sometimes this meant my daughter’s bath was cold, or the hot water ran out while I was doing dishes in the sink. Not any more- and even the kids have noticed a difference (though I tried to convince my daughter that a cold bath was like playing in the pool, she’s much happier now with the endless supply of hot water.)
